Do the Bears Need Plaxico Burress?

I love Johnny Knox. He is a great receiver with a lot of speed. A few years ago, he was exactly what the Bears needed to add to their team. He is a still a very important part of the team. Last year he was just shy of 1,000 receiving yards. That's pretty impressive. I have nothing wrong with him as a receiver and I want him to stay a Bear for as long as possible. There is one thing that he doesn't do well that Jay Cutler needs him to do well, though. He isn't the type of receiver that will fight with a cornerback for the ball when it is tossed high in the air. That's okay, because that just isn't the type of receiver that he is. The problem is, the Bears can't succeed with only Knox as a primary receiver. They need another piece to help Jay Cutler out and help him have less interceptions.

There are a few suggestions for who will take this roll for the Bears. Some say that the Bears will pursue Santana Moss or other big name players like that. There is also another suggestion out there.

People think that Plaxico Burress might be a good fit for the Bears. He is just out of jail and will be a free agent in the NFL this year, if the lockout ends soon. There are a couple fans that think that Plaxico would be a great fit for the Bears. Other teams are starting to look at him too, so it wouldn't be automatic for the Bears to get him if they want him anyway. The Bears should be interested, though.

Plaxico is exactly what the Bears need. They need a receiver that will fight for the ball. That is one of the things that Burress is best known for. He can also run routes and is an overall great receiver. He does have problems, though. He doesn't seem like a team player to me. I don't know much about his locker room demeanor, but he doesn't seem like he would be great friends with the other players and a great guy. I could be wrong and he is actually a great guy in the locker room. The Bears have a great locker room and that was shown after Cutler was hurt. The players are all so close that they stood up for him without hesitation. Every player is connected and there is almost no drama in the locker room. If Plaxico's personality will change that, the Bears should not be looking for him. The Bears have talent and they do need a receiver like Burress, but the way the locker room is now is perfect. Making a change that would hurt that would hurt the team more than not having that receiver that they "need".

Overall, I like Burress. He is a good receiver. He is known for his catch in the Super Bowl, but that is not all he has done. He hasn't played in awhile and if the lockout continues, that may hurt him. I think the Bears should pursue Burress, but not be desperate to add him to the team. They are fine without him, but he would be a nice addition to the team.
